The wood is surprisingly hard with a Janka scale rating of 1,020.
It has a very wide sapwood that is creamy white that finishes to hues of buttercream with a narrow heartwood of colors that range from medium to dark brown, sometimes with green, purple or black streaks.
Some of our logs were affected by the ambrosia beetle, leaving the characteristic streaks of gray and brown throughout.
